Two of my “fake roommates” came to town today. They came down around noon and we started the adventure with a trip to the zoo. We wandered around, somewhat disappointed on how many animals weren’t out, but I guess it’s hard for a lot of them to be out in the Wisconsin weather when they’re mostly from warmer climates. We were incredibly fascinated by the seals. They are so funny to watch and we even got to see the little baby one. Unfortunately, there weren’t any sloths and we couldn’t feed the goats. But that just gives them a reason to come back in the summer so we can go again.
Ian’s for lunch? Great idea. Except it’s boys high school state basketball this weekend. Bad idea. No parking downtown anywhere. Back to the Eastside we go. We settled on the Great Dane and stuffed out faces with delicious burgers and chicken and washed it down with their famous homemade cream soda.
We ran a few errands and ended up at Java Cat and got some gelato and tea. I went to go coach and they wandered around the city and went for a frozen walk down by the lake front at Olbrich. It’s very pretty there, but today it was balls cold.
We finished the evening with some Monty’s Blue Plate Diner. We didn’t eat their famous burgers and breakfast, but instead overfilled our stomachs with cupcakes and milkshakes. I don’t think I have ever eaten so much sugar in one day and I think I’d honestly be okay if it never happened again. Holy cow.
Although we never get to see each other for long, when we do get to see each other, it’s like we were never separated for weeks or months at a time. The stories and laughter always comes at the right time and I hold that near and dear to the heart.
